Karma's Story

I've been guiding in Bhutan since 1996. I'm based in Paro and hold a Level 2 trekking license.

Over the years, I've done most of the major treks many times—Snowman, Druk Path, Jomolhari, and some routes that don't have official names yet.

In October 2025, I guided Adriana Brownlee through the Snowman Trek. She's a British mountaineer who had just finished climbing all fourteen eight-thousanders. The trek went well because we moved at a pace that made sense and adjusted when we needed to.

I work as a freelance guide, which means I'm not tied to a tour operator in Thimphu. When you book with me, you're dealing directly with the person who will be on the trail with you. I coordinate the logistics, hire the crew, and make the decisions on the ground.

Most of my work comes from people who want to go beyond the standard cultural tour. I do those as well, but I prefer treks and trips where there's time to stop and talk to people, or to take a detour because the weather is good and there's a valley worth seeing.

I started Kurukulle Adventures because I wanted control over how we run trips. Our cooks and horsemen are paid fairly. When the team works well, the trek works better for everyone.

If you want to know whether a route is realistic for your fitness level, or what the weather is actually like at 5,000 meters in October, you can ask me directly. I'll give you an honest answer.
