Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Paro
Welcome to Bhutan! Upon arrival at Paro International Airport (2,280m), you'll be greeted by your guide and transferred to your hotel. After settling in, visit Paro Rinpung Dzong, a fortress-monastery overlooking the valley. Take a leisurely walk across the traditional wooden cantilever bridge. In the evening, explore Paro town to acclimate to the altitude. O/N at Hotel in Paro.

Day 2: Paro to Thimphu
Drive to Thimphu (1.5 hours), Bhutan's capital city nestled in a scenic valley. Visit the towering Buddha Dordenma statue (51.5 meters) for panoramic valley views. Explore the Memorial Chorten, where locals continuously circumambulate while spinning prayer wheels. Visit the Folk Heritage Museum and, if time permits, the National Textile Museum showcasing Bhutan's rich weaving tradition. O/N at Hotel in Thimphu.

Day 3: Thimphu to Punakha
Journey to Punakha (3 hours), crossing the scenic Dochula Pass (3,100m) adorned with 108 memorial chortens. On clear days, enjoy magnificent Himalayan views. Day 4: Punakha to Gangkar Puensum Base Camp
Drive to Gangkar Puensum Base Camp (approximately 6 hours), passing through dramatic mountain passes and crossing the iconic Thang La Pass (3,300m). Stop at the traditional villages along the way and enjoy the stunning views of the Himalayas. Arrive at the base camp in the afternoon to prepare for the challenging trek ahead. Day 5: Gangkar Puensum Base Camp to Chomolhari Lhakhang
Begin your trek to Chomolhari Lhakhang (approximately 4-5 hours), ascending through beautiful mountain trails to the sacred monastic complex at 4,500m. Visit the ancient monasteries and learn about the spiritual significance of this remote site. Enjoy the stunning panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. O/N at Chomolhari Lhakhang.

Day 6: Chomolhari Lhakhang to Dungphug Lhakhang
Continue your ascent to Dungphug Lhakhang (approximately 5-6 hours), a challenging trek to a 4,800m plateau. Explore the ancient monastery and enjoy the breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks. Hike along the stunning mountain trails and learn about the local traditions of the region. O/N at Dungphug Lhakhang.

Day 7: Dungphug Lhakhang to Shangri-La
Return to Shangri-La (approximately 4-5 hours), visiting the ancient monastery of Shangri-La Dzong and hiking along the sacred mountain trails. Explore the stunning natural beauty of the region and learn about the local crafts. O/N at Hotel in Shangri-La.

Day 8: Shangri-La to Punakha
Continue your journey west to Punakha (approximately 4 hours). Visit the ancient monastery of Punakha Dzong and explore the surrounding countryside. Experience the peaceful atmosphere of this remote region. O/N at Hotel in Punakha.

Day 9: Punakha to Thimphu
Return to Thimphu (approximately 3 hours), visiting the National Institute for Zorig Chusum where students learn traditional arts and crafts. Visit the Simply Bhutan Museum for an interactive cultural experience. O/N at Hotel in Thimphu.

Day 10: Thimphu to Paro & Departure
Begin your journey back to Paro (approximately 1.5 hours), visiting Paro Rinpung Dzong and the traditional wooden cantilever bridge. Arrive in Paro by late afternoon and relax at your hotel. Your guide will assist with departure formalities and bidding you farewell with memories of Bhutan's highest mountain region.

Note: This trek is physically demanding due to the high altitude. Acclimatization is important, and you should be prepared for challenging weather conditions. The guides are highly experienced with high-altitude trekking.
